FAQS
When is the best time to travel to the Philippines?
The best time to visit the Philippines is during the dry season, which runs from December to May, with January to April being the most popular months. This is when you’ll get sunny days and perfect island-hopping weather. That said, the Philippines is great all year-round destination. Even during the rainy season (June to November), you’ll still get plenty of sunshine, fewer crowds, and lush green landscapes.
Is the Philippines expensive to visit?
The Philippines can be a very affordable place to travel. Accommodation, food, and transport are all budget-friendly, especially if you’re eating local and staying in hostels or local hotels. Joining a group tour is also a great way to keep costs down, as your accommodation, transport, and activities are sorted upfront - meaning fewer surprise expenses along the way.
How much time should I spend in the Philippines?
We’d recommend 8-24 days to really experience the Philippines. With over 7,000 islands, there’s a lot to see! Around two weeks gives you enough time to explore a mix of cities, beaches, and islands without your time there feeling rushed. Shorter trips are also great, but the longer you stay, the more variety you’ll get. However long you spend in the Philippines, you will fall in love with it for sure!
Do I need a visa to visit the Philippines?
It’s always best to check your government’s official advice, but many nationalities do not need a visa for short stays in the Philippines and most travellers are granted visa-free entry on arrival.
What vaccinations are required for the Philippines?
There are no mandatory vaccinations for most travellers. We always recommend speaking to your local doctors, we're not medically trained so can't give official advice on vaccines you need/don't need.
Are there ATMs in the Philippines?
Yes! Visa and Mastercard are usually accepted (especially at bank ATMs), but cash is still king, especially at markets and local stalls. Your Tru Leader will be able to help you with finding the best atms with the lowest charges.
What languages are spoken in the Philippines?
Filipino (Tagalog) is the national language, but English is widely spoken throughout the country. This makes travelling around the Philippines super easy. Learning a few local phrases is always appreciated and will definitely earn you points from the locals!
Can you drink tap water in the Philippines?
No, tap water is not safe to drink. Stick with bottled or filtered water. Ice in larger city hotels and restaurants is often from purified sources, but it’s safest to ask or stick to bottled if you’re unsure.
Is the Philippines safe?
Yes, the Philippines is considered very safe for travellers. However if you are nervous about travelling somewhere completely new, going with a local guide will unlock a new depth to each destination with your Tru leader showing you the highlights and hidden gems!
